One of the volunteer services  I would never give up is the weekly SING ALONG  session with the Seniors and elderly patients in the Seniors' Home near my house..We go there  every Monday  come rain or hail or snow..

Music ( particularly old music ) entertain them so much that I feel we are helping in breaking the monotony of their lives..The food is excellent  the rooms are hotel like ( it is still brand new, thats why ) but they have to be entertained too, and my piano playing and Miguelita's singing play a great deal in breaking the humdrum  of their existence..

So week by week I play the oldies over and over again e.g. HARBOUR LIGHTS, RED SAILS IN THE SUNSET, LILI MARLENE, HAPPY WANDERER, MOCKING BIRD HILL, RED RIVER VALLEY, LET THE REST OF THE WORLD GO BY, and many, many others..I have tons of books of the oldies, pop, folk songs, movie music, etc..that belong to the '50s...

One of their favorites is the song below..As a poem or as a song, it would really tug at your heart strings especially if you see the seniors singing it with smiles and sparkling eyes....Remember these people were one time so young, strong and vibrant..

Now they could hardly take care of themselves..Whether we like it or not, this is the destiny of man ( and woman )..It is better if now we should go around and make friends with as many people as we can. NOW that  WE STILL CAN....

I See the Moon

art by VIC COSTES

I See the Moon

I see the moon; the moon sees me
Down through the leaves of the old oak tree.
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.
CHO: Over the mountain, over the sea,
Back where my heart is longing to be,
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.

I hear the lark; the lark hears me,
Singing a song with a melody.
Please let the lark that sings for me
Sing for the one I love.
CHO: Over the mountain, over the sea,
Back where my heart is longing to be,
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.

I kiss a rose; the rose kisses me,
Fragrant as only a rose can be.
Please let the Rose that comforts me
Comfort the one I love.
CHO: Over the mountain, over the sea,
Back where my heart is longing to be,
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love.
